About

Welcome to Booked on a Feeling! I’m Kim, the human behind this sometimes snarky but always honest book review blog. Here, we cut through the fluff and get straight to the heart of what makes a book great (or not.) I focus on how the book felt, not if it’s going to win a Pulitzer Prize for exceptional prose

Who Am I?

I’m a passionate reader, a lover of stories that evoke strong emotions, and lately of worlds that feel far away from our own. I believe that books are meant to be felt as much as they are read. That’s why I focus on how stories make me feel, whether they bring joy or tears, frustration or elation. I’m also a critic who isn’t afraid to tell it like it is, and I love parentheses. You’ll see.

When I’m not buried in a book, you can find me exploring New York City with my goofy puppy Manon (yes, named for that Manon. <wink>)

My Reading Philosophy

At Booked on a Feeling, you’ll find reviews that are more like conversations with a friend. I delve into the plot, characters, and vibe of each book, giving you the lowdown on what’s worth your time. With a sharp eye for detail and an empath to the core, my goal is to find that next great book hangover. Expect real talk about what worked and what didn’t, and a final verdict that helps you decide if a book is worth your precious reading hours. I review mostly fiction heavy on fantasy and romantasy, though not exclusively so. I read only one book at a time in written format, but I also listen to memoirs and non-fiction on audiobook. You may also find reviews for books on social justice and antiracism, feminism and geopolitics sprinkled in. You can find what I’m currently reading in the sidebar on any page.

No matter what I’m reading, my reviews are personal, reflective, and always honest – because life’s too short for bad books.

I love hearing from fellow book lovers! I desperately need more reads to add to my TBR, which currently sits at a whopping 260 books on Goodreads (link), so please share yours or your thoughts on this blog and my reviews. Whether you agree with my take or think I’m completely off the mark, your (respectful) input is always welcome here. Thanks for getting Booked on a Feeling with me!

A Note on Advance Reader Copies (ARCs)

I will sometimes receive an ARC from an author or publisher, either directly or through online platforms such as NetGalley (link) or Edelweiss (link). This is a common practice in the publishing industry, and allows for a book to have an online presence and word of mouth marketing prior to a book’s release. Please rest assured that all ARC reviews will be clearly noted as such, and that the review will be as thorough and honest as any book that I purchased myself.

A Note on Artificial Intelligence (AI)

I’m sure most of you have heard of ChatGPT, and other similar AI tools if for no reason other than the controversy and philosophical debate that they create. For full disclosure and transparency, I do utilize AI, ChatGPT in particular, to assist in both designing and writing this blog. However, I never ask ChatGPT to write my opinions for me. I will either provide a bulleted list of key points or a rough draft and ask for ChatGPT’s assistance in refining my text, consistency of voice, or formatting. I have provided ChatGPT many sample writings of my own to match tone, voice and style and any outputs are heavily edited by me before being posted to the site.

So why do I use it? In all honesty, I often experience decision paralysis and writer’s block. Having something to start from and rewrite means I actually get something on this page instead of staring at a blank screen forever. I happen to be a huge supporter of using AI tools, especially for productivity, and am happy to talk to you more about if it you have questions. And no – ChatGPT didn’t write a single word of this note, so there’s no robot propaganda here!
